Why do we use balloons for birthday celebrations?
Balloons for birthday celebrations
Balloons have been around in different shapes for a long
time. The first rubber balloons appeared in the early 19th century, and other
types of balloons had previously been mentioned in the literature. Not sure
which metric to use to determine the point at which they became popular for
decor, so I'll be picking the late 1980s. At that time there was a critical
mass of professionals using birthday
balloons and the first professional balloon art conventions appeared. So
there was clearly a demand for it. And of course, once organizations and
conventions have been formed around the art of ballooning, its popularity could
grow much faster.
There are a few things that make them great for parties big and small:
• You pack small and play big. We built 5-story
public
installations with balloons on a pallet. This means they can be taken almost
anywhere with no special shipping and storage requirements. Even at small
events, the “pack small, play big” story still works. With a bag full of
balloons, you can now upgrade a small, living room-sized party.
• They have a very low environmental impact. When you're
done, talk again about a single pallet for a 5-story sculpture. What other big
display creates this little waste? You can even compost them if you are
environmentally conscious. Whenever possible, we do this to reduce waste even
further.
• Their temporary nature makes them feel really special.
You're part of an event and then they're gone. Basically, their life cycle
corresponds to that of an event.
• You are fragile. They are easy to break and need special
care. This contributes to their attractiveness as a special element.
• They are extremely light, easy to use and safe. The worst
that can happen (under normal circumstances) is that a balloon bursts and
someone is scared for a moment.
